Well ahead of time, make two copies of the Bible verse. Print the words on heavyweight card stock pieces or poster board strips, like this:
“I will be your Father and you will be my sons
and daughters,”
says the Lord Almighty. 2 Corinthians 6:18
Form two teams, each with an equal number of players. If teams are uneven, plan to join in the game yourself, or ask another adult to do so. Scatter the Bible verse strips a running distance away—one complete set for each team.
Explain: At my signal, the first person from each team will run to the team’s word pile, choose one of the word strips, and bring it back to the team. As soon as the first team player returns with the word strip, the second team member will run and do the same. Keep going until all of the word strips are with your team. Then, work with your teammates to assemble the Bible verse. The first team to stand up and say the verse together, wins.
Play the game a few times, until students begin to memorize the verse. Then, invite teams to invent actions to go with the Bible words and teach the actions to the other team.
This is an easy game to set up, a quick game to play, uses some energy up that kids always bring to class with them, and can be used over and over by changing out the Bible verse. Consider having some inexpensive giveaways to hand out as prizes. Find them here.
