Ahmad Khan Rahami, a naturalized US citizen, taken into custody as friend says he got more religious after trip to Afghanistan, his country of birth

Dan Roberts and Jamiles Lartey in New York Monday 19 September 2016

A shootout on the streets of New Jersey ended a dramatic manhunt on Monday as police arrested a man suspected of involvement in weekend bombings that injured 29 people in New York.

Ahmad Khan Rahami, a 28-year-old naturalized US citizen born in Afghanistan, had hours earlier been named in a wanted alert sent to millions of local cellphones as Manhattan prepared to host world leaders at the United Nations general assembly.  Continue reading at https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/sep/19/new-york-bombing-suspect-ahmad-khan-rahami

Terrorism, Sanctuary Cities and the Law

Explosion that injured 29 in New York obviously an act of terrorism, governor says

Are the Terrorist Attacks Imperiling New York, New Jersey and Minnesota Providing Greater Insight into the New Face of ISIS?

The Observer writes: At the beginning of the month, ISIS released a new magazine named Rumiyah (Rome, in a nod to their apocalyptic goals) in several languages. In an article extensively outlining Quranic verses and scholars interpretations, ISIS stated that disbelievers- non-Muslims or Muslims not adhering to their standards-should be slain wherever they may be-on or off the battlefield as their blood is cheap, filthy, and permissible to shed.

ISIS Message Preceded Trio of Attacks: Anything Is a Soft Target Islamic State demands death by a thousand cuts

In a directive that preceded a Saturday of attacks across three states, ISIS gave its followers a broader, more chilling definition of soft targets-telling Muslims in the West to just kill anyone they want, even kids playing on a basketball court, and justify it as jihad.

It answers the question of why someone would leave a pressure-cooker device on a random Manhattan sidewalk, why a bomb was detonated on an otherwise unremarkable block of Chelsea, and why an attacker claimed by ISIS stabbed random victims enjoying Saturday night at a Minnesota mall.  Read entire article at http://observer.com/2016/09/isis-message-preceded-trio-of-attacks-anything-is-a-soft-target/

It appears from reading the following article by the Washington Times that whether homegrown or infiltrating from other countries, those who bring terrorism to our shores could find themselves under greater scrutiny by the Feds and in some cases on their way out.  On July 7, 2016, Stephen Dinan of the Washington Times reported

Feds moving to strip money from U.S. sanctuary cities

Stephen Dinan writes the following:  The Justice Department said Thursday it has warned sanctuary cities to quit shielding illegal immigrants from deportation agents or else lose federal grant money, putting some muscle behind Republicans push to punish cities and counties that have refused to cooperate.  That could prevent future situations like the Kate Steinle case, where an illegal immigrant was released by the sheriffs department in San Francisco despite a request that he be held for deportation. The man would go on to kill Steinle, according to authorities, as she walked on the city waterfront with her father.  Read more at Sanctuary city policy gets funding yanked by federal government

Recently, Don Pesci wrote It is a fiction that there are only a limited number of sanctuary cities in Connecticut. The truth is the entire state is a sanctuary state. Pesci goes on to write the following in his article captioned Connecticuts Placebo Solutions: Are We Safe Yet?The Department of Justice, for instance, has showered $342,168,401 upon 10 sanctuary states and cities, Connecticut among them, that reject federal claims for criminal illegal aliens earmarked for removal, according to the U.S. Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General.

According to a recent report in Judicial Watch, Connecticut is a trailblazer in the sanctuary movement that received more than $69 million in grants from the DOJ. Connecticut has long protected illegal immigrants with sanctuary policies and even offers them special drivers licenses, known as Drive Only. Continue reading Pesci article at http://donpesci.blogspot.com/2016/08/connecticuts-placebo-solutions-are-we.html

How it unfolded

Yesterday the Guardian reported

New York bombing:police name suspect

New York police have released the name and picture of a man they want to talk to in connection with an explosion in New York on Saturday night: 28-year-oldAhmad Khan Rahami. Separately, and after another explosion in Elizabeth, New Jersey, New York governor Andrew Cuomo said evidence might suggest a foreign connection to the bombings. Overnight, one device detonated and four others were found in a backpack outside a station in New Jersey. The device exploded at 12.30am as a bomb squad was attempting to disarm it. Earlier, investigators said the FBI had obtained surveillance footage of a man with backpack near where devices were placed in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan on Saturday. On Sunday night, FBI agents in Brooklyn stopped a vehicle of interest in the investigation, according to a spokeswoman. The agency said the Manhattan device contained the residue of Tannerite, an explosive often used for target practice.  Continue reading at

Is there another type of Terrorism unfolding in our country?

Seldom discussed is that which was highlighted on November 10, 2015 by Hollie McKay in her Fox News article captioned Honor killing in America: DOJ report says growing problem is hidden in stats. Therein, Hollie McKay writes: The estimated 27 victims of so-called honor killings each year in the U.S. do not fit neatly into the FBI exhaustive Uniform Crime Reporting Statistics.

Hollie McKay continues: Honor Violence Measurement Methods, a study released earlier this year by research corporation Westat, and commissioned by the U.S. Department of Justice, identified four types of honor violence: forced marriage, honor-based domestic violence, honor killing and female genital mutilation. The report, which estimated that 23-27 honor killings per year occur in the U.S., noted that 91 percent of victims in North America are murdered for being too Westernized, and in incidents involving daughters 18 years or younger, a father is almost always involved. And for every honor killing, there are many more instances of physical and emotional abuse, all in the name of fundamentalist Islam, say experts.   Continue reading at http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/11/10/honor-killing-in-us-justice-department-mulls-guidelines-as-grim-toll-rises.html
