OP-ED: The Truth about ‘Jobs’
Governors by Heath W. Fahle | Aug 8, 2010 In a lousy economy, the buzzword with every
candidate is “jobs”. Each one has a jobs plan and most of them feature a slogan
about creating jobs or otherwise getting Connecticut
back to work. To a man, each one pledges that their political party will be
better on creating jobs and fixing the state’s budget deficit than the other.
Republicans blame the Democratic legislature and Democrats blame the Republican
Governor. The cycle completes itself. But
in looking at data from current Governors across the nation, 24 Republicans and
26 Democrats, there really is very little evidence to suggest that one
political party is better at either task.

The U.S. Government has taken too much of the State
of Utah’s
Property! July, 2010 Now
the state of Utah is sick and tired of the U.S.
Government taking land for themselves. And the Governor of Utah, Gary Herbert
(R), this past Saturday authorized the state to envoke
the eminent domain laws against the U.S. Government. Currently
the U.S. Government owns
approximately 70% of Utah.
The right to develop the disputed land and thus generating added tax income is
one reason behind the move. The battle may be able to be fought in the Supreme
Court. The thought is that the property may be able to develop some
$50 billion for the state’s public schools. What becomes interesting is that
the journalists from the left are yelling that the state is already short
of funds and this property fight will cost the state money they don’t
have. But, the fact is that the Attorney General is all ready on
full-time salary and filling fees aren’t that much money. The federal
government should be able to sell off the land under obligation to the states,
giving them 5 percent of the profit, which the fed’s haven’t done. So on it
goes, the leftist journalists complain that the Governor and the Utah state’s
Representatives push on to get some of their land back, while the writers and
democrats continue their harangue about why they shouldn’t get the state of
Utah’s money back.

Spending
Binge, Part Deux, Fiscal schizophrenia reigns in the
White House. Wall Street Journal, Stephen
Moore, June 18, 2010, Don't expect any Republican votes for the White House's new
proposal for a $50 billion bailout of the states. Republican resistance to
deficit spending is stiffening, even among moderates. GOP leaders in the House
tell me that they were "shocked" at the latest spending plan to pay
states to hire more teachers and police officers, adding that there are
virtually "no votes" inside the House and Senate Republican caucuses
for the new package of largesse. They see the Democrats' continued binge of
spending as a political gift to ensure ever larger GOP pick-ups in the November
elections. "The debt is the biggest issue to American voters right
now," says Tom Price, head of the conservative Republican Study Committee
in the House. He adds that "there is still about $300 billion of stimulus
money from last year's spending bill that hasn't been spent." If Democrats
pass the $50 billion for the states plus their $100 billion "jobs
bill" now in front of the Senate, this would mark the third and fourth
spending bills -- the stimulus plan and the Obama
health care bill being the first two -- that will have been enacted almost
exclusively with Democratic votes. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704289504575312831328587168.html?mod=WSJ_latestheadlines
